Why Travel Romania?

 

Romania is a central European country known for the forested region of Transylvania, preserved medieval towns such as Sighisoara and many fortified churches and castles, notably clifftop Bran Castle, long associated with the Dracula legend. The area is ringed by the Carpathian Mountains, which are popular for trekking, climbing, skiing and bathing in natural thermal spas.

 

Apart from this, there are some facts that might surprise you about this country. Romania has 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites which includes the Churches of Moldavia; the Dacian Fortress of the Orastie Mountains; the Historic Centre of Sighisoara; the Monastery of Horezu; the Villages with Fortified Churches in Transylvania; the Wooden Churches of Maramures and; the Danube Delta. Romania is also Europe’s richest country in gold resources, has one of the happiest cemeteries on Earth, boasts the world’s largest administrative building—Nicolae Ceausescu, Bucharest’s Palace of the Parliament also known as People’s House. This is the largest, heaviest and most expensive civil administration building on the planet.

 

Moving ahead, when in Romania, must visit is Berca mud volcanoes, which is an awe-inspiring landscape of bubbling mud. Located near Buzau, the Mud Volcanoes have been designated a geological and botanical reserve and are fuelled by natural gas eruptions 3km (2 miles) below the surface. Next visit Biertan where you shall see Transylvania's numerous Saxon fortified churches, including the Biertan Church—a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

Black Sea Coast, Bran Castle, Bucharest, Constanta, Fagaras mountain range, Museum of History of the Jewish Community and Carpathian Mountains are all worth a visit.

 

For some shopping delight, you could head to Romania’s generic shopping malls or you could head to shop with the locals at your nearest market and buy national specialties such as embroideries, pottery, porcelain, silverware, carpets, ceramics, crystal, glassware, fabrics, wool jumpers, woodcarvings, metal, leather goods, rugs, glass paintings and silk dresses.
