Why Travel Bhimtal?

About 298 kms from Delhi, rested at a height of 1370m above the sea level, Bhimtal in Uttarakkhand is spotted with temples lying amid the verdant mountains and a pristine blue lake. Land is named after the second eldest Pandava-Bhima. The region is mainly famous for the massive Bhimtal Lake.

During a trip to Bhimtal, one can enjoy boating in the Bhimtal Lake, one of the popular tourist attractions in Bhimtal. There is an island in the middle of the lake, which can only be accessed through boats. There is a temple complex, located in the town of Bhimtal, which attracts pilgrims from in and around this region. Also known as Bhimeshwar, the temple complex was built in the 17th century and known for its exquisite architecture.

An ideal weekend getaway from Delhi, this town's most sought after spot is Bhimtal Lake with a small island in the middle adding charm to its picturesque surroundings. Connectivity :

By Rail : There is no direct rail connectivity between Delhi and Bhimtal. Train service is available between Delhi to Kathgodam. From here onwards, you’ll have to take a bus between Kathgodam to Bhimtal.

By Air : The airport located in the town of Patnanagar is the closest airport. The airport in Patnanagar is well-connected to Delhi airport.

By Road : Bhimtal is well-connected to Nainital, Dehradun, Haridwar and even Rishikesh. If you are travelling from New Delhi, take a bus to Nainital and get down there. From there onwards, buses to Bhimtal are easily available.

The restaurants and eating joints in Bhimtal offer food in multi-cuisines from Chinese, Mexican and continental to everybody's favourite Indian cuisine. Momos are also among the top of the list of the food menu almost everywhere and food served is quite good.

An Ideal Itinerary
Bhimtal offers several tourist attractions more than enough to enjoy in one day. Nal Damyanti, a beautiful lake near Bhimtal is splendid in the early morning. You can either continue to Hidimba Parvat from here or continue the journey after a warm and delicious breakfast. Heading on to Karkotaka Temple from here for the blessings of the serpent god, continue your trip to Bhimtal Lake. There is much to explore there from aquarium and temple to Victoria dam and beautiful flora and fauna. Break for lunch there only and if left with time as well as energy do visit Folk culture Museum for a glance into the culture and past of the region. A hearty dinner at hotel announces the closing of a perfect trip.

Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple
Located at a distance of 7 kilometers from Bhimtal, Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is said to have been built by Bhima during his exile period.


Naukuchia Tal
Located 5 kilometers away from Bhimtal, Naukuchia Tal, a ‘Lake of Nine Corners’, is a famous lake for rowing, yachting and paddling. This lake is fed by a recurrent spring. Naukuchiatal is also famous for the ‘Escape Festival’, which happens once in every year (in the month of May).

Sat Tal
Located at a distance of 14 kilometers from Bhimtal, Sat Tal is an interspersed group of 7 freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal. It is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes in India.

Nal Damayanti Tal
Located 2 kilometer away from Bhimtal, Nal Damayanti Tal is a small natural lake, where the palace of great mythological king ‘Nala’ drowned. It is a very revered place for the inhabitants of the region.

Hidimba Parvat
Located 5 kilometers away from Bhimtal, Hidimba Parvat derives its name from the demon Hidimba of Mahabharata. Vankhandi Maharaj, a famous monk and ecologist lives here, and has created a sanctuary for the wild animals around the hill. The area is known as Vankhandi Ashram.
